STEM in Year 5
Our Year 5 pupils recently took part in an exciting STEM workshop all about flight—and what a fantastic experience it was!
Led by Roy, the children explored the science behind how planes stay in the air, learning about gravity, air resistance, and forces. They then put their knowledge into action by building mini propellers and investigating how their direction of spin (even vs. odd) affected movement.
The fun didn’t stop there! Pupils tested different plastic propellers to see which could stay airborne the longest, sparking lots of curiosity and friendly competition. To finish the day, everyone designed and launched their own paper rockets outside—watching them soar into the sky was a real highlight.
It was a hands-on, high-energy workshop that inspired creativity, teamwork, and a real love of science. The children had an amazing time!
