As part of our “Yummy, yummy” World Around Us topic pupils in Mrs Carson’s class cut up a red cabbage and soaked it in water overnight. The next day the water had turned from clear to purple from natural dye from the red cabbage. We poured the purple water into 4 jars. We then added 4 substances to the purple water. Lemon juice, fairy liquid, baking powder and vinegar were added. We predicted what might happen. We predicted correctly that the colour would change. We observed the results.
