Year 6 Earthquake Engineering Investigation

2nd Mar 2026

Year 6OBCH pupils took part in a hands?on STEM investigation linked to their learning on natural disasters. Working in teams, they designed and built structures using only paper and tape, applying ideas about forces, stability and structural strength.

Pupils used predicting, planning and problem?solving skills to develop their designs before testing them in a simulated earthquake by shaking the tables. They also explored load?bearing capacity by adding weight to their structures.

All groups showed excellent teamwork and creativity, and every structure successfully withstood both the earthquake test and the weight challenge.
